Prince Harry is said to be reconsidering a plan to bring Meghan Markle and their children to the UK after his call for police protection was rejected. The Sussexes were expected to travel from their home in the US to the UK next month to attend celebrations marking the one-year countdown to Harry’s Invictus Games hosted in Birmingham.

A formal request for police provided security was made by Harry‘s staff, but reports suggest the Duke was told taxpayer-funded protection won’t be provided.

Sources have suggested Harry is distraught by the decision, but he is keen to find a solution. There had been hopes King Charles would be able to see his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, again after they last visited in 2022.

So what do you think? Should taxpayers pay for Harry and Meghan’s security on this UK trip? Vote in our poll and join the debate in the comments section.

Harry has faced a protracted legal battle with the Home Office over security arrangements for him and his family while in the UK.

His level of protection changed when he and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, stepped down as working royals in 2020.

Security worries for his family have been cited by the Duke as a reason he could not bring them to the UK on previous occasions.

It had appeared his concerns were mitigated, with previous reports claiming the Sussexes had been given assurances. Sources previously stressed all matters of security are issues for the Home Office.

It is understood King Charles has not played nor does not play a role in the process and he has not made any private undertakings.

It is four years since Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, last saw their grandfather the King in person. That was during Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022.
