Last night, I witnessed something truly heartwarming, something that reminded me why so many students adore Deputy Terry Gregg, the school resource officer at my daughter’s school, Boones Creek. He’s not just an officer to the kids—he’s a friend, a mentor, and someone they look up to with genuine affection.
We attended the homecoming at Ridgeview, where Deputy Gregg was present, as he often is at events involving the students. During the ceremony, there were two little children with special needs participating. One of them, a young girl, walked out toward the center of the court and immediately became overwhelmed. She froze, fear and nervousness written across her tiny face, and then ran back toward her family, who were seated off to the side.
It could have been a small, forgettable moment, but not for Deputy Gregg. He immediately noticed her distress, paused whatever he was doing, and went over to her. With gentle words and patience, he tried to ease her fear. And then, in a gesture that was both simple and extraordinary, he guided her toward the front, walking alongside her and her “prince” for the evening. She clung to him, and he knelt down beside her, softly patting her back, making sure she felt safe, seen, and supported.
Watching him interact with her, it was clear he wasn’t just doing his job. He was protecting her confidence, preserving her joy, and making sure she didn’t miss this special moment of her life. The little girl stood at the front, comforted, smiling, and able to participate fully—all because of his kindness and attentiveness.
In a world where the spotlight often falls on the negatives, it’s important to remember these moments of compassion. Deputy Gregg’s actions reflect the best of what law enforcement can be: protective, caring, and human. He went out of his way to connect with a child in need, and in doing so, he created a memory she will never forget.
This is just one small example of the good your officers are doing every day, often unseen and unreported. But those moments—quiet, genuine, and heartfelt—make all the difference. Children feel safer, families feel supported, and communities witness firsthand that kindness still thrives in every uniform.
I just wanted to share this story to show the impact Deputy Gregg has, not just as an officer, but as a guiding, caring presence in the lives of the children he serves.
